Jobbeschreibung The Department of Inorganic Spectroscopy at the MPI CEC is presently looking for doctoral and postdoctoral candidates with a strong background in physical inorganic chemistry and/or applied computational chemistry to strengthen our research team. The successful candidates will be supervised by Prof. Serena DeBeer and have close collaborations with Prof. Frank Neese (MPI KoFo). The candidates will carry out a highly relevant project in the field of O2/H2O2 activation by copper enzymes and model complexes. The research project aims at elucidating mechanistic details and characterizing key electronic-structure features responsible for high efficacy and stereoselectivity of the enzymatic reactions using high-level calculations and advanced spectroscopic techniques, such as X-ray absorption and X-ray emission spectroscopy (both resonant and non-resonant), electron paramagnetic resonance, and magnetic circular dichroism. A strong background/ interest in the detailed characterization of transition metal active sites is required.
Qualifikationen Your Profile:
- A strong background in inorganic/physical chemistry or computational chemistry
- A strong understanding of basic concepts in inorganic chemistry as they apply to open shell transition metals
- A completed Ph.D. for postdoctoral candidates or completed master’s degree for Ph.D. candidates. Talented Master’s candidates will also be considered.
- Documented scientific achievements
- Fluency in both written and spoken English
- Eagerness to learn new techniques
- Strong independent and creative work ethic
- Ability to conduct collaborative scientific research
